Cricut Wood Projects

Cricut Project: Real Wood Memorial Bookmark Honoring a Cowboy

Wooden Memorial Bookmark for a Cowboy

We were honored to create a custom wood memorial bookmark for a beloved man who had recently passed. Made with our .025″ thick White Pine Real Wood Paper, this bookmark served as both a heartfelt tribute and a lasting keepsake. The natural warmth and soft grain of White Pine provided the perfect backdrop to honor someone with a deep love for horses and the western way of life. Simple yet meaningful, this Cricut-made memorial piece captured the rustic spirit of a life well lived.

Below is a materials list and the brief details with how we created this beautifully unique memorial bookmark.

Materials Used:

  • White Pine .025″ Thick Wood Veneer Sheet 8.5″ x 11″ Short Grain
  • Cricut Maker
  • Canon Craft and Photo Printer
  • Crop-a-Dile Paper Punch
  • Brown Flat Suede Cord

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Create a Rustic Cowboy Memorial Bookmark with Real Wood Paper

Step 1: Design Your Bookmark
We began by designing the memorial bookmark in Photoshop, incorporating a photo of our cowboy friend along with a meaningful quote. Once the layout was complete, we saved the file as a flattened image.

Step 2: Prepare the Bookmark Cut File
Using a bookmark template from Cricut Design Space, we imported our design into Cricut and lined up the image within the bookmark cut borders. We repeated the design several times on the 8.5″ x 11″ canvas to make the most of a single sheet of wood.

Step 3: Print on Real Wood Paper
We used our Canon crafting photo printer to print directly onto an .025″ thick White Pine Wood Backed Sheet. Be sure to print from the rear feed tray if your printer has one, and always test your printer settings with a small design before printing the full sheet.

Step 4: Cut the Bookmarks with Cricut
Once printed, we carefully placed the wood sheet onto a strong grip cutting mat and loaded it into the Cricut Maker. We selected the appropriate cut settings and let the machine cut out the bookmarks.

Step 5: Remove Cut Pieces
After cutting, we gently removed the bookmarks from the wood sheet. Occasionally, pieces may not fully release—if that happens, simply bend the wood slightly back and forth near the cut lines. It may creak or crack a little, but that’s normal with thicker wood veneer sheets.

Step 6: Punch the Tassel Hole
Instead of cutting the tassel hole with the Cricut (which doesn’t always handle small holes well in thicker wood), we used a Crop-A-Dile punch to create a clean center hole in each bookmark.

Step 7: Add the Suede Tassel
To complete the rustic, western-inspired look, we threaded a piece of brown flat suede cord through the hole and tied it with a loop—resembling saddle tacks or reins.

These handcrafted bookmarks are a meaningful addition to any memorial or celebration of life. Made from real wood, each one offers a natural and heartfelt way to honor a loved one’s memory. With their warm texture and personalized design, they become a lasting tribute and something guests can hold onto, reflect on, and cherish. No two are exactly alike, making each bookmark as unique and one-of-a-kind as the life it represents.

Embroidered Wood Wedding Invitation

Wood Wedding Invitation with Embroidered Flower

DIY Embroidered Sunflower on a Wood Wedding Invitation

Embroidering a sunflower onto a wood wedding invitation adds a stunning, handcrafted touch, blending natural elegance with artistic detail. Using beautiful silk ribbon in vibrant yellow and shimmery green, we carefully stitched each petal and leaf, bringing the sunflower to life. For the center, we used rich brown floss and the French knot technique, creating a textured, seed-like effect. The invitation itself was printed on an Aspen Fleece Back Sheet using an HP Envy Photo 7855 and then securely adhered to a Wenge Wood Back Sheet, resulting in a one-of-a-kind, nature-inspired wedding keepsake.

Below is a materials list and the brief details with how we created this beautifully unique Wood Wedding Invitation.

Materials Used:

  • Wenge .025″ Thick Wood Back Sheet
  • Aspen .010″ Thick Fleece Back Sheet
    • Other species available HERE
  • Aspen 5″ x 7″ Wood Envelope
  • HP Envy Photo 7855 Printer
  • 3/8″ wide Yellow Ribbon
  • 1″ wide Green Ribbon
  • Brown Floss
  • Embroidery Needles
  • Awl or Paper Piercing Tool
  • 3-in-1 Beacon’s Glue
Real Wood Paper Wedding Invitation

Step-by-Step Tutorial

  1. Design & Print Your Invitation
There are a variety of programs available to create the perfect wedding invitation. For this project, we recommend your main layer be printed on our .010″ Thick Fleece Back Sheets or .016″ Thick Paper Back Sheets.

  2. Before You Begin Embroidering The Flower
Some previous embroidery experience is recommended. There are many tutorials on YouTube to get you started with Sunflower Silk Ribbon Embroidery. We did not have a design template for our design; we created the design free-hand, as we went along. We recommend using an awl or paper piercing tool to pre-punch holes into the wood. This makes it much easier to pull your needle and ribbon through the wood sheets.

  3. Begin Embroidering The Flower
We opted to begin with our brown embroidery floss to create the center of the sunflower. We used the French knot technique and created many knots for the center of the flower. Next, we began punching/piercing holes for the yellow flower petals. The ribbon is thick, so take your time, make your holes slightly bigger than your needle. Once all the ribbon petals were in place, we moved on to the bigger green ribbon for the leaves. Again, make your holes even bigger with this wider green ribbon.

  4. Assemble Your Wood Wedding Invitation
Once your sunflower is complete, glue the Aspen Wood Sheet to the Wenge Wood Sheet to hid your ribbon and floss. We used Beacon’s 3-in-1 glue but you can also use your favorite adhesive.

Real Wood 60th Anniversary Card

Creating a custom card for a milestone like a 60th wedding anniversary is always a special experience. This unique card was handcrafted using a combination of Wenge, Cherry, and White Pine Real Wood Paper—each wood bringing its own distinct character and texture to the design. The rich, dark tones of Wenge contrast beautifully with the warm hues of Cherry, while the light, natural finish of White Pine adds balance and elegance.

Thoughtfully designed for such a significant occasion, the layers and details in this card reflect the depth and beauty of 60 years of love and commitment. Real Wood Paper provides the perfect medium for blending craftsmanship with nature, resulting in a keepsake that’s not only stunning but also truly meaningful. Whether it’s for an anniversary, wedding, or any other momentous event, custom wood cards like this one turn memories into tangible works of art.

To ensure the perfect execution of your project, we’ve provided Cricut Maker blades, cutting settings, and step-by-step instructions in our Cutting Real Wood Paper with a Cricut Maker Tutorial.

For this handmade wood card, I used my Cricut Maker to intricately cut the flourishes, multi-layered flowers, and stacked 3 layers of the number “60,” bringing it all together beautifully. For the detailed assembly, I relied on our favorite adhesives: Beacon’s 3-in-1 Glue. Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue as well as Pop Dots for dimension on the “60” and the multi-layered flowers.

To elevate the card’s elegance, I added a handmade creamy ribbon bow that exudes sophistication. Paired with a delicate handmade string of pearly beads, these details bring an extra layer of charm and dimension to the design.

Adding to the card’s uniqueness, the inside design mirrors the front, using the same framing SVG files for a cohesive and polished finish. A few delicate flourishes were incorporated for added flair, ensuring that every detail ties together seamlessly. This level of thought and craftsmanship transforms the card into more than just a greeting—it becomes a cherished keepsake.

Congratulations to our dear friends on their 60th Wedding Anniversary!

For this project, we sourced a cute Pumpkin SVG file from Etsy. We followed the cutting instructions that were provided with the cut file. For the base, top and supporting sides we use the 11″ x 17″ Walnut .025″ Thick Wood Back Long Grain sheet. For the pumpkin panels, we use our 11″ x 17″ Maple .010″ Thick Fleece Back Short Grain sheets. Fleece is very similar to vellum as it offers translucent qualities and flexibility similar to vellum.

Once all the pieces were cut using our Cricut Maker, we carefully adhered the Vellum pieces to the Maple Fleece Back pieces with Barely Art Precision Glue. We really like the pin point applicator for such intricately cut pieces.

Once the glue was dried, we assembled per the instructions that were supplied with the SVG file.

Wood Anniversary Card

Real Wood 25th Anniversary Card

I haven’t had the chance to make a handmade custom wood card in a while, but when a longtime business friend asked for a special card to celebrate his 25th Wedding Anniversary, I knew it was time to get creative!

DIY Wood Cupcake Wrapper and Picks

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! However, our DIY Wood “Love” Cupcake Wrappers and Picks project is great for any occasion such as a Rustic Woodsy Wedding, Masculine Birthday, Woodland Themed Party Decor, Wild Animals Kids Birthday Party, Lumberjack Treats, Baby Showers and more!

Note: For this project we only cut 2 wrappers per 11″ x 17″ .010″ Fleece Back Sheet, however with proper spacing, you could easily get 8-10 wood cupcake wrappers per sheet. We used cut files available in Cricut Design Space that measured approximately 8.5″ in across. It was just a little too tight for our 8.5″ x 11″  Wood Veneer Sheets so we opted for our 11″ x 17″ Wood Veneer Sheets.

We cut all the wrappers from the .010″ Thick Fleece Back Sheets. This particular thickness of Wood Veneer Sheet is much thinner than the Cricut Brand Wood Veneer so you are able to cut them with a regular Cricut Fine Point Blade.

To learn more about our Real Wood Veneer Sheets and how to cut them, view Cutting Real Wood Paper with a Cricut Maker.

We opted for Long Grain Wood Veneer Sheets for this project because the wood grain would go up and down (not side to side) on the wrappers which allows the wrappers to bend/wrap around the cupcake. It’s bending with the wood grain rather than against the wood grain.

To learn more about our 3 Different Wood Veneer Thicknesses as well as the difference between Short Grain and Long Grain, please click the links provided.

For the Hearts and Love Picks, we used our .025″ Thick Wood Back Sheets. These Wood Veneer Sheets are similar to Cricut Wood Veneer and do require the Cricut Deep Point Blade. We did cut one of the Love Picks from the Walnut .010″ Fleece Back – one layer regular and one layer mirror image. We glued them together for stability and so that there was wood on both sides. These were pretty intricate cuts for wood veneer so it does take a gently hand in removing from the mat and assembly.

Wood Cupcake Wrappers
DIY Wood Cupcake Wrappers

Before we added frosting and sparkling sugar, we test fit the cupcakes to the wood wrappers. Perfect fit! Going with a scalloped edge on the wood wrapper made the cupcakes look like cute little daisies! The Wood Wrappers would look great with muffins too. How adorable would a garden or flower themed breakfast or brunch be with muffins that look like daisies? So cute!!

Take make the Cupcake Picks, we used the Quirky Script Font in Cricut Design Space for the Love sentiment. We cut 2 different sizes: 2.65″ wide and 2.2″ wide. The hearts measure approximately 2.5″ x 2.25″. We made the Love sentiment just slightly larger so it could be used on it’s own and slightly smaller to be placed on the hearts. For assembly, we just glued toothpicks to the backs with Beacons 3-in-1 Glue. Hot glue would be another good option. For the ones we cut out of the .010″ Fleece Back Sheets, we put the toothpick between the 2 layers of wood paper. We also glued one of the Love sentiments to the cupcake wrapper itself.

After adding buttercream (yum!) frosting and sparkling sugar, we added the Cupcake Picks to our Wood Wrapped Cupcakes and enjoyed all the cuteness.

Santa Gnome Wood Earrings

Santa Gnome Wood Earrings

Could these Wooden Santa Gnome Earrings be any cuter??? We were so excited to find this adorable cut file and couldn’t wait to try it out. As cute as these Wooden Christmas Earrings are, they were just as fun to make! Watching them come together piece by piece was exciting!

Materials Needed:

  • Aspen .025″ Thick Wood Back Long Grain
  • Cherry .025″ Thick Wood Back Long Grain
  • Eastern Red Cedar .010″ Thick Fleece Back Long Grain
  • Cricut or other cutting machine
  • SVG File
  • Glue (we used Bearly Precision Art Glue)
  • Small piece of sandpaper
  • Earring hardware and tools
  • Very small circle paper punch

The first important item here is the GRAIN DIRECTION. Aspen and Eastern Red Cedar have very distinct wood lines which make them a perfect fit for a Santa’s beard and hat! So we recommend that you use our LONG GRAIN sheets and align your cut images so that the wood grain goes up and down instead of side to side on your Cricut mat. We have linked our Long Grain sheets up above in the materials list however you can use our Short Grain and just turn in the other way on your cutting mat.

The second important item here is the Santa Gnome Earring cut file does come with images with or without holes. We used the files WITHOUT the holes. The holes are just too small and intricate for the wood. We opted to punch the holes for the earring hardware ourselves as to not damage the tips of the gnome hats.

We know most you already are super experienced with your Cricut machines so we do not really need to get into those details. For our full list of recommended Cricut cutting settings for Real Wood Paper, you’ll want to visit this tutorial on How To Cut Real Wood Paper with a Cricut.

You will notice that for the hats, we used our thinner fleece backed sheet. This was to help reduce the thickness and weight of the earrings.

Once you have everything cut out, you’ll probably have to gently work the cut pieces from the full size sheet by gently bending back and forth. They may make a cracking sound but that’s normal…it is real wood. Because these are earrings and close to the skin, we’d recommend taking a piece of sandpaper to the edges of the wood just to remove any little leftover splinters.

We really loved using the Bearly Precision Craft Glue on this project. It worked perfectly! Assembly of the pieces was easy and the glue dried quickly. Once dried we punched the holes in the hats and installed the earring hardware. Then we sat back and took in all the adorableness!

We also think if you made the cut files bigger, you could easily make them into Christmas Tree Ornaments or Gift Tags. The options and ideas are endless!

Colored Pencil on Wood Bookmarks

Colored Pencils on Wood Bookmarks

DIY Cherry Wood Bookmarks printed with 3 stunning, hand drawn digital stamps, cut with a Cricut Maker and colored with colored pencils! You have a lot of options with this project!

Let’s talk about the wood paper thickness, grain direction and printers first. To start, we used our 8.5″ x 11″ .025″ Thick Cherry Wood Back Short Grain sheets.

Grain Direction matters when you are running wood paper through a home/office printer. We used our HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer to print the falling leaves digital stamps onto the Cherry Wood Paper. The wood is more flexible with the shortest length of the sheet (short grain). Short grain goes through a printer easier when inserted 8.5″x11″. Long grain goes through a printer easier when inserted 11″ x 8.5″.

DIY Printing can be challenging with Real Wood Paper but certainly not impossible! We recommend using a straight through feed laser printer with our Real Wood Paper however we have found that this little HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer does a pretty amazing job at printing and the ink not bleeding too much. We tested and compared 2 reasonably priced home/office laser and photo printers. You can view the printing results here.

We laid out our leaf digital stamps in a Word document and due to the size of the bookmarks (2″ x 6″), we laid them out horizontal but printed them on short grain portrait. That will probably make more sense by looking at the photos below. We then aligned a bookmark shape (3 times) from Cricut Design Space to cut out our bookmarks with a Cricut Maker. For you savvier Cricut users, there’s probably an easier way to accomplish this within Cricut Design Space with the Print then Cut feature. For Cricut blades and settings when cutting Real Wood Paper, view this Cutting Wood with a Cricut Tutorial.

For those of you who do not care to cut out your own bookmark shapes, we sell Cherry Wood Bookmark Blanks with Tassels in the online store. As an alternative to printing images, rubber stamps with a permanent ink or even embossed ink works fantastic with Real Wood Paper.

Materials Needed:

  • 8.5″ x 11″ .025″ Thick Cherry Wood Back Short Grain
  • OR Cherry Wood Bookmark Blanks with Tassels
  • Cricut Maker
  • Colored Pencils – we used Prismacolor
  • Falling Leaves Digital Stamp Set by Streamside Studios
  • HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer
  • Tassel
