Custom Wood Anniversary Card Creation!

I haven’t had the chance to make a custom wood card in a while, but when a longtime business friend asked for a special card to celebrate his 25th Wedding Anniversary, I knew it was time to get creative!

Since it’s a silver anniversary, I wanted this card to be more than just something in an envelope—it needed to be a real presentation. I designed the card specifically for a beautiful window box, adding a special touch.

The card features a mix of our finest woods: Aspen, Cherry, Walnut, and White Pine, all in different thicknesses—fleece, paper, and wood back. Using my Cricut Maker, I intricately cut the flourishes, circles, and the number “25” to bring it all together. For the detailed work, I relied on our go-to glues, Beacon’s 3-in-1 Glue and Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue.

To add even more depth and dimension, I layered the wood flourishes and added a gorgeous silver ribbon, looped and twisted across the card.

Can Real Wood Paper be scored and folded?

YES! You can score and fold Real Wood Paper. For best results, score your paper with a crisp line going WITH the wood grain. You may need to go over that line a couple of times. Fold on your score line.

If your project does require scoring and folding against the grain, the wood will most likely crack and splinter. You want to use just enough pressure so it doesn’t cut all the way through the sheet. It takes a little trial and error to get it right but once you get the setup figured out it will fold just fine for you. If there are still a few splinters on the fold line, just rub with a little sand paper. Some species fold better than others such as birch, maple and cherry.

A couple other tips:

🟠 Try spritzing the wood with a little water at the score line as this will help make the wood be more flexible.

🟠 Once your sheets are scored and folded, putting them under weight (such as a big heavy book) will help enforce a flatter fold.

🟠Using a regular clothes iron on a warm (not hot) setting, heat up the fold area, fold and put under weight. The heat reactivates the adhesive making the wood more flexible. When it’s cooled it will hold the desired shape better.
